First agricultural shipment arrives at Syria’s Tartus port
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The General Authority of Syrian Land and Sea Ports announced on Wednesday the arrival of the first shipment of agricultural products from South America and Europe at Tartus Port, just two days after sanctions were lifted.
In a statement, the Authority said the first ship loaded with agricultural crops from South America and Europe arrived at Tartus Port following the lifting of sanctions.
It added that the vessel MJ Sofia docked carrying more than 19,000 tons of Romanian barley, imported through the American company AD.
This marks the first shipment to enter Syrian ports directly, without transiting through Turkey or Lebanon.
Two days earlier, the U.S. Department of the Treasury officially removed Syria from sanctions regulations in the Code of Federal Regulations.
