Damascus welcomes U.S. decision to remove Syria from sanctions lists

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed on Monday the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to remove Syria from the sanctions lists under the Code of Federal Regulations.

In a statement, the ministry described the move as a positive development in the right direction that will directly improve the humanitarian and economic conditions of the Syrian people.

The statement noted that the decision would help facilitate trade and financial transactions, ease restrictions on U.S. exports to Syria, and ultimately alleviate citizens’ hardships while creating new opportunities for economic and commercial cooperation between Damascus and Washington.

The ministry further highlighted that the timing of the decision, coinciding with the visit of a second official U.S. Congressional delegation to Damascus, carries an important indication of the opening of a new chapter in bilateral relations, grounded in mutual respect and constructive dialogue.

Reaffirming its stance, the Foreign Ministry stressed Syria’s commitment to continuing dialogue and cooperation with international partners on the basis of sovereignty and mutual respect, in a manner that serves the stability and prosperity of the Syrian people and the peoples of the region.
