Men of Dignity Movement in Syria’s Suwayda appoints new leader
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Men of Dignity Movement (Rijal al-Karama) in Suwayda Governorate, south Syria, announced on Sunday the appointment of Abu Dhiab Mazid Khaddaj as its new general commander, succeeding former leader Hassan Yahya al-Hajjar.
Earlier that day, the Movement welcomed the decision of several military factions in Suwayda to merge under the name National Guard Forces, affirming, “As you know us, we will be among the first to support unity of ranks at this sensitive stage.”
In a statement the Movement said, “The leadership of the Rijal al-Karama appoints Sheikh Abu Dhiab Mazid Khaddaj as general commander of the Movement—someone who has always remained steadfast in defending the land, preserving honor, and protecting the mountain.”
The Movement recalled its long history of sacrifice, noting, “Since its founding, the Rijal al-Karama has offered hundreds of martyrs and wounded in battles of honor and resistance. Most recently, over seventy martyrs and two hundred wounded fell in the fight against the authority’s treachery and terrorism—proving once again that the blood of our men is a shield for the mountain and its people against all threats.”
Reaffirming its commitment, the Movement concluded, “We remain loyal to our covenant and principles, and we call on all the people of the mountain to stand united as one, closing ranks in the face of adversity.”
