landmine blast in central syria leaves one dead, another injured
Homs, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and his brother injured on Friday due to the explosion of a war remnant in the village of Jbab Hamd, located in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria, while they were working on farmland.
An administrative source from the General Security Directorate told North Press that “the explosion occurred near the village of Jbab Hamd, approximately 35 kilometers east of Homs city.”
The source added that the explosion killed 19-year-old Mondher Shalash and injured his brother, Ubadah Shalash, as they were clearing rocks from an agricultural field in preparation for cultivation.
The incident was caused by a landmine left over from previous conflicts, the source confirmed, noting that this is part of a series of recurring explosions in various areas of Homs Governorate. These incidents are due to the widespread presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance in rural and agricultural lands.
