Asayish arrest 9 ISIS sleeper cell members in Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Tuesday the arrest of nine members of the Islamic State (ISIS) and a drug trafficker during separate security operations in Raqqa city and its countryside in northern Syria.
In a video released by the Asayish media office, footage from the counterterrorism operation was shown, with a caption stating: “Our forces conducted a security operation that resulted in the arrest of nine ISIS sleeper cell members who were planning to carry out acts of sabotage in Raqqa and its surrounding areas.”
In a separate development, the Asayish said in an official statement that their anti-narcotics unit apprehended an individual involved in the possession and distribution of illegal drugs during a targeted operation on July 25, following extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The statement added that the raid led to the seizure of a variety of illicit substances, including 2,063 captagon pills, four grams of crystal meth, and 25 assorted pills with narcotic effects, some of which are typically used for medical purposes.
