SDF condemns violence in Syria’s Suwayda
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) condemned on Monday the ongoing violence and rising security tensions in Syria’s southern Suwayda Governorate, denouncing the repeated attacks on towns and villages in the area.
In a statement, the SDF said the clashes in Suwayda have “led to the tragic loss of many lives and the burning and looting of numerous civilian homes and farms.”
Since Saturday, Suwayda has witnessed escalating tensions following a robbery and kidnapping on the Suwayda–Damascus highway, which quickly devolved into armed clashes between local groups. So far, the violence has left around 30 people dead and more than 100 injured.
“The repeated attacks on our people in al-Sweida, along with the continued harassment they face in their daily lives and freedom of movement, are deeply concerning,” the SDF stated. “These acts represent a serious setback to the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people.”
The SDF called for an immediate end to the violence and urged all sides to prevent further escalation. The SDF also emphasized the need to give national initiatives space to address the underlying issues—based on the collective will and aspirations of Syria’s diverse communities.
