French delegation pushes to revive intra-Kurdish dialogue in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A French delegation met with Kurdish parties in Syria aiming to revive the intra-Kurdish dialogue, two informed sources told North Press on Thursday.
The sources said the French delegation met with the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK) this week to revive discussions among Kurdish political parties in Syria.
Mohammad Mousa, Secretary-General of the Kurdish Leftist Party in Syria, confirmed the meeting took place on Wednesday but declined to provide further details about the discussions.
An anonymous source involved in the dialogue revealed that the French delegation conveyed the Kurdish National Council’s (ENKS) readiness to resume negotiations.
Both sources emphasized that the discussions remain in the preliminary stages, with no further updates available at this time.
The call for renewed intra-Kurdish dialogue gained momentum after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the subsequent control of Damascus by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and allied factions.
Political and public voices have since amplified the need for a unified Kurdish vision in Syria.
Efforts to bring the Kurdish parties together date back to late 2019, when the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, initiated a dialogue process between the PYNK and the ENKS under U.S. sponsorship.
The PYNK parties include the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and are operating in the areas run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). On the other hand, some members of the ENKS parties operate in Syria while others are outside. They joined the Syrian National Council (SNC) with the start of the Syria revolution against the toppled regime of Bashar al-Assad.
