Russian forces set up new observation post on Syria-Israel buffer line
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Russian forces announced on Saturday the establishment of a new observation post near the buffer zone between the Syrian and Israeli forces in the Golan Heights, southern Syria, raising the Russian flag at the site.
This new post, situated above Tel Ahmar along the Bravo Line, marks the eastern boundary of the demilitarized zone separating the Syrian and Israeli militaries.
Alexander Rodionov, Deputy Commander of the Russian forces in Syria, announced on Saturday that the post was set up in the Quneitra region of southern Syria, in accordance with agreements aimed at preserving the integrity of the United Nations-mandated buffer zone.
Rodionov told Sputnik-Arabic, “With this new post, we now have eight observation posts in place to support ongoing efforts to maintain the security and stability of Syrian territory.”
He noted that the mission is being conducted by the Russian Military Police tank battalion, under direct orders from the Russian commander in Syria.
Rodionov also clarified that the Russian forces remain stationed at assigned observation sites along the U.N. buffer line between Syrian and Israeli troops, countering recent reports that suggested any withdrawals from these positions.
This area was established in line with a 1974 United Nations resolution following the cessation of hostilities in the October 1973 war.
