Turkish-backed SNA faction tortures man in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A faction of the Turkish-backed armed opposition, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), tortured on Thursday a young man in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in northeastern Syria.
The Turkish-backed Sultan Murad Division detained a young man in Sere Kaniye while he was attempting to cross into Turkey.
A military source told North Press that after his arrest in the town of Tel Halaf, the young man was subjected to torture before being handed over to the Turkish-backed Civil Police.
The 26-year-old man, originally from the city of Qamishli, had been planning to reach a European country.
Last week, the Civil Police also detained an individual in Sere Kaniye, whose fate remains unknown, according to the same source.
Sere Kaniye has been under the occupation of the Turkish forces and the control of SNA factions since 2019, following the so-called “Peace Spring” military operation that aimed to push away the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) under the pretext of protecting the Turkish national security.
The operation resulted in the displacement of the population of the city. Tens of thousands of Sere Kaniye IDPs reside in camps in the countryside of Hasakah, amidst difficult living conditions.
