SDF’s Mazloum Abdi denies involvement in Ankara attack
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, denied on Saturday involvement in the Ankara attack on a defense company.
“I categorically deny any involvement of our forces in this operation. No one from our territory has entered Turkish territory, and the Turkish state cannot provide any evidence to substantiate its claims,” Abdi said in a speech.
On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the recent attack in Ankara, which targeted the Turkish aerospace and defense company TUSAS, was carried out by perpetrators who entered Turkey from Syria.
Abdi said that Turkey has been carrying out unprovoked attacks on Northeast Syria for the past four days to disrupt security and stability in the region.
These assaults are aimed at military forces, essential infrastructure, service facilities, and civilian areas. As a result, 17 civilians, including only two military personnel, have died, while 48 others, including military personnel, have been injured, he noted.
Abdi stressed that the attacks are aimed not just at their military and civilians but also at allies, including the U.S.-led Global Coalition forces and Russia.
He pointed out that “the stances of these parties are insufficient, and they should exert more pressure on the Turkish state to compel it to cease its attacks.”
Turkey’s main objective is to undermine the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), create instability in the region, and forcibly displace people from their homes, according to Abdi.
He added that the AANES has not acted against Turkey and has tried to maintain good relations with all parties.
He highlighted that “SDF General Command has made a decision not to conduct any military operations on Turkish territory or in Northern Kurdistan. Our primary and sole arena for struggle and military action remains Syria.”
Abdi emphasized that they consistently advocated for resolving issues with Turkey through dialogue but these ongoing attacks hinder these efforts and create a threat to the possibility of dialogue, stressing that if these attacks continue, they will need to respond more forcefully in defense.
