Suspected Israeli strike kills Iranian-backed leader in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A leader of the Iranian-backed militia Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq was killed on Friday in a suspected Israeli airstrike in Syria.

The militia announced that Abu Haidar al-Khafaji, was killed during a “Zionist assault” in Damascus early in the morning. According to the militia, Khafaji was serving as a security advisor in Syria.

Israel is believed to frequently conduct airstrikes on Iranian-backed militias in Syria, but it seldom comments on these attacks.

On Sep. 9, the Syrian government said that Israeli strikes in Hama Governorate in central Syria resulted in the deaths of 18 people and the injury of at least 37 others.

The strike against Kataib Hezbollah’s leader comes after Israel detonated communication devices like pagers and walkie-talkies used by members of the Lebanese Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria earlier this week.

The explosions that happened over the course of two days resulted in the killing of 32 people and the injury of thousands, according to Lebanese Minister of Health Firas Abiad.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah Hezbollah announced that 20 of its militants were killed in the explosions of communication devices they were using.
