Hezbollah says 20 militants killed in pager blasts

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Lebanese Hezbollah announced on Thursday that 20 of its militants were killed in explosions of communication devices they were using.

A source close to Hezbollah told AFP that the fatalities occurred as a result of the devices exploding.

Lebanese Minister of Health Firas Abiad revealed to the U.S. based al-Hurra TV channel that the total death toll from the explosions over the past two days reached 32, with thousands injured.

Activists in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, documented several explosions in the site of telecommunication system in the town of al-Mayadin, south of Deir ez-Zor.

The activists also reported explosion of communication devices in the town of Abu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor, with no casualties reported so far.

Earlier, sources reported that 14 people of unknown nationalities were injured in Damascus and its countryside, due to the explosion of personal communication devices of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

On Wednesday, 14 people were injured in Syria due to an explosion of pagers used by the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Hezbollah accused Israel of carrying out the two explosion waves on Tuesday and Wednesday, which resulted in thousands of injuries among its members.

Israel has not commented on the attacks, which came just after it announced it was expanding its war aims against the Palestinian Hamas – supported by Hezbollah – to the northern border with Lebanon, to allow the return of displaced people in the north of the country.
