SDF thwarts infiltration of Iranian-backed militants in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Hajin Military Council, a component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Sunday thwarting infiltration attempts by Iranian-backed militants into the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The council stated their forces deterred militants affiliated with the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias from infiltrating into the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

A local source told North Press that the SDF targeted a group of militants trying to cross into the town of Abu Hamam in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

He added that the SDF forces clashed with the militants and targeted the group with mortar shells and machine guns.

He pointed out that some of the militants who attempted to infiltrate to attack SDF positions retreated to locations linked to Iranian-backed militias and the government forces.
