3 injured in mutual shelling in de-escalation zone in NW Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) renewed on Sunday in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria in an unprecedented military escalation in the region since the beginning of January 2024.
Opposition media platforms reported that the government forces targeted residential areas in the city of Idlib with rockets loaded with phosphorus, resulting in three initial casualties.
On Saturday, military escalation and mutual shelling occurred between the government forces and HTS in the countryside of Idlib, Aleppo Governorate, and Hama, resulting in casualties on both sides.
The Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), targeted with rockets the positions of the government forces’ artillery in the city of Saraqib and its surroundings in the east of Idlib. They also shelled groups of the government forces in the village of al-Bahsa in the Ghab Plain in the northwest of Hama.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense and the Russian Reconciliation Center have yet to comment on the shelling.
