AANES official survives assassination attempt in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A local official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) survived on Sunday an assassination attempt in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A source in the town of al-Jazrat in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor said unidentified gunmen shot at Ibrahim al-Shuhemi’s vehicle while he was returning from work.

He told North Press al-Shuhemi, who is an official in the Water Directorate in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, managed to escape and survive.

On Sunday, unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted an employee in a relief organization with machineguns in front of his house in the town of Abu Hamam in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, killing him immediately.

Deir ez-Zor and its countryside witness frequent assassinations against civilians, security forces and AANES officials, usually carried out by ISIS cells.
