AANES renovates 36 quake-damaged schools in Syria’s Manbij
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Manbji Education Committee of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Wednesday that they have started renovating more than 35 schools, some of which were damaged by the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey in early February.
Schools and infrastructure in Manbij have been affected by the large-scale battle that took place in the city between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2016, as well as the earthquake, which damaged several schools and houses in Manbij.
A committee, which was formed by the Education Committee after the earthquake, revealed that approximately 350 schools in Manbij and its countryside were affected, with five schools rendered completely out of service.
Alloush al-Mustafa, an administrator at the School Buildings Office of the Education Committee in Manbij, stated that they have started restoration work in the affected schools, which include repairing and constructing new classrooms and bathrooms.
He added that the education sector targeted 36 schools in Manbij, with a total cost of up to $400,000.
The Education Committee faced delays in carrying out restoration projects in the affected schools due to the delayed allocation of the budget designated for the committee’s projects in 2023, according to Mustafa.
The renovation work is expected to be completed within a maximum of six months, according to the official.
