ISIS landmine blast kills children in Syria’s Manbij

Manbij, Syria (North Press) – Four children were killed on Thursday night in a landmine explosion in the countryside of Manbij, northern Syria.

A local source from the village of Qart Weran in the west of the city of Manbij told North Press that four children lost their lives when they played with a landmine, leading to its explosion.

The children were severely wounded and died as soon as they reached the hospital in Manbij, the source added.

The Media Center of the Manbij Military Council (MMC), affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stated that the landmine was left behind by the Islamic State group (ISIS).

In June 2022, two brothers lost their lives and two girls were wounded in a landmine blast left behind by ISIS in the vicinity of the village of Awn al-Dadat in the north of Manbij.

In the first half of 2023, the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press documented the killing and injury of 543 individuals, 70 percent of whom were civilians. Of those, 288 were killed and 255 were injured.
