SDF reveals toll of Turkish attacks against AANES-held areas in July

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed on Saturday the toll of the Turkish attacks carried out against areas under their control during July.

The SDF is the military wing of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Turkey intensified its drone strikes deep in Syrian territories. The most recent attack was two days ago where four SDF fighters were killed.

The Media Center of the SDF said they recorded 556 ground, artillery, tank, mortar attacks carried out by Turkish forces in July. Turkish warplanes violated the Syrian airspace 58 times, whereas its drones attacked the region 10 times.

The Media Center revealed that as a result of the Turkish shelling, nine SDF fighters, including a member of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), and one civilian were killed, and 12 SDF fighters and two civilians were injured.

The dangerous and systematic Turkish violations of human rights in Syria, not abiding by and implementing its extraterritorial obligations, threatening the security and stability of north Syria, carrying out deadly operations, and violating the civilians’ right to life, are all a violation of the international human rights law and international humanitarian law and must be investigated and held accountable for.

During the first half of 2023, Turkey attacked north Syria with 34 drone strikes, leaving behind 73 casualties, killing 44 individuals and injuring 29 others. The number of civilian victims constituted 27 percent of the total toll of victims.
