Turkey deports 7 Syrian, Iraqi families to Turkish-occupied areas
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish authorities deported on Thursday six Syrian families, including an Iraqi one, to Syria through the Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) border crossing north of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.
An exclusive source told North Press that the Turkish authorities deported six Syrian families, including an Iraqi one, through the Sere Kaniye border crossing, where they were arrested by the Turkish-backed Military Police faction of the Syrian National Army (SNA) for verifying their data.
The source added that after arresting the deportees, the Military Police demanded they or their families pay ransoms in turn for their release, or they would remain under arrest for “security” allegations. The amount of the ransom they impose reach $7,000.
According to the source, 29 Syrian and Iraqi deportees have been under arrest in the headquarters of the Military Police since June 21.
Though obtaining Turkish temporary protection ID cards (Kilmlik), Turkish authorities have deported 47 Syrians and Iraqis since early July through gates in Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad.
The city of Sere Kaniye has been under the occupation of Turkey since 2019 following a military operation launched by the Turkish forces and the SNA factions dubbed “Peace Spring Operation”.
