Rukban camp civil board calls on NGOs to support IDPs
RUKBAN, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Civil Affairs Board in Rukban camp, located on the Syrian-Jordanian border, called on humanitarian organizations to better the living and health conditions in the camp which has been under a ten-year embargo imposed by Syrian government.
People in Rukban camp, around 8,000, have suffered from a severe embargo since 2018. The government forces prevented international organizations from accessing the camp under the pretext of lack of security.
The Board held a regular meeting where it discussed the deteriorating living conditions of IDPs in the camp and the spread of diseases in summer, as well as how to overcome problems.
The participants demanded that humanitarian organizations support the camp with generic medicines, especially antidotes for scorpion and snake bites, since the camp is located in a desert area.
In late May, a team of the board went to al-Tanaf border crossing located on Damascus–Baghdad road, to call for the opening of the crossing to residents of the camp who are suffering from dire living conditions as a result of the blockade.
