AANES, USAID improve internet in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Energy and Communication Directorate of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, in cooperation with US Agency for International Development (USAID), worked on improving the internet network in the region.
USAID and the Energy and Communication Directorate will increase the number of Wi-Fi towers in the region.
Residents of Deir ez-Zor, especially in the eastern countryside, complain about poor broadband internet and problems resulting from far-away wireless transmission towers, according to owners of internet network shops.
Yasser al-Issa, head of the communication department in Deir ez-Zor, said that the launched project aimed at improving the internet service and making it available in the eastern countryside.
Al-Issa added that the project is supported by USAID, “Wi-Fi towers will be placed in several areas, including al-Busayrah, Abu Hamam, and Hajin.”
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defeated ISIS militarily there.
