MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Environment Directorate in Manbij Municipality, of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), launched on Tuesday a campaign to get rid of plastic waste in the city of Manbij, northern Syria, on World Environment Day.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet.

Adnan al-Dakhil, co-chair of the directorate, said that the purpose of the campaign is to eliminate plastic pollution and clean up streets and routes of plastics. 

Plastic waste affects the ecosystem because it does not degrade. So that, it was necessary to target plastic waste and we have to find alternatives for it, according to the official.

The campaign targets streets and routes of the city, as it has started on Tuesday and will last for three days and cover all the city, according to al-Dakhil.

The plastic waste will be gathered and transferred to a landfill in the village of al-Awn, north of Manbij, to be disposed.
