Delegation from Syria’s Rukban meets with Iraqi officials to discuss aid deliveries

RUKBAN, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a delegation from the Civil Affairs Authority in the Rukban camp, headed to the al-Tanf-al-Waleed border crossing, on the Damascus-Baghdad road, in order to meet with Iraqi officials.

The delegation made an urgent appeal to open the crossing for the camp’s residents, who are suffering from dire living conditions due to a siege imposed by Syrian government.

The camp, which houses 8,000 people, has been under a severe siege by Syrian government forces since 2018, preventing international NGOs from accessing the camp, citing security concerns.

Muhammad Badri Zaghirah, a member of the Civil Affairs Authority in Rukban camp, told North Press that they headed to the al-Tanf border crossing and met with the officials in charge of the crossing on the Iraqi side, and conveyed the miserable situation of the camp’s residents.

“The officials promised us to convey our voices to the relevant authorities but did not provide further details,” he said.
