Syrian journalists start first platform against misleading media in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian journalists launched the first platform specialized in misleading content and fake news in northeast Syria.
The “True Platform” is a platform that verifies news and follows up on the fake ones on social media, Syrian and international media, as well as monitoring reports and news that spread hate speech.
Hamza Hamki, the managing editor of the platform, told North Press on Monday that the platform’s work “relies on a group of independent Syrian journalists, who follow up on news in northeast Syria.”
The platform’s team also follows up on news publicized across Syria, in neighboring countries, and the world, according to Hamki.
He added, “Editors of the platform analyze the content and rephrase it to abide by the standards of professionalism and factuality.”
The new platform, it says, seeks “to enhance chances of peace in Syria by fighting misleading content and hate speech to contribute to restoring the media’s credibility and the audience’s trust.”
It also aims at “spreading awareness through verifying content on social media and among the targeted recipients, as well as upgrading workers’ knowledge in the field of media and giving them access to ways of verification, as well as to fight hate speech among Syrian communities.”
The managing editor noted that the platform also provides the service of receiving any unverified news through official accounts.
