Child loses his arms in landmine blast in eastern Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a child lost his arms in a landmine explosion, likely left by the Islamic State (ISIS), in a town in eastern Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
Abdullah al-Saleh, 40, from the town of al-Majawda in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said, “My younger brother, Nour al-Saleh, 11, lost his arms when a landmine left behind by ISIS exploded while he was playing near an deserted house close to our home.”
He added that his family came to their current home only three days ago, but that after that incident they would leave the town, “as it is not safe and remnants of war spread in it.”
Unexploded ordnances strew across the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, since it was the last stronghold of the ISIS.
On Tuesday, residents of the same town managed to dismantle a landmine inside an abandoned house on the outskirts of the town.
