KRG closes Semalka-Faysh Kahbur border crossing with NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) closed Semalka-Faysh Kahbur border crossing on Thursday until further notice.

The Semalka-Faysh Kahbur border crossing links the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) with those of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

The management of the Faysh Kahbur sent a notice to the NGOs informing them that the crossing was closed until further notice. The management yet to reveal the reasons of the closure.

“We have not been informed of the reason for the closure and are gathering more information,” the notice read.

A source from the Semalka crossing said they had received the closure notice for all trade exchange and diplomatic relations.    

“We have just been informed by officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government that Fishkhabur-Semalka Border Crossing is closed as effect of immediately and until further notice,” the notice added.

The last time where the crossing was closed was on December 16, 2021, to be resumed on January 23, 2022.
