Israeli attacks put Aleppo Airport out of service, cause casualties

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israel carried out on Monday missile attacks on the vicinity of Aleppo, killing one Syrian government soldier, wounding 7 others including two civilians, and putting Aleppo International Airport out of service, Syrian state media reported on Tuesday.

Israel carried out the missile attack at 23:35 pm southeast of Aleppo, targeting the airport and some sites in the vicinity of the city and causing some material damage, according to the source.

Syrian air defenses intercepted the Israeli missiles, shooting down a number of them, the source added.

The attack preceded the visit of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Syria that is scheduled on Wednesday on an official invitation of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes inside Syria over the past few years, targeting what it says to be Iranian-backed militia’s strongholds.

On March 7, four Israeli F-16 aircrafts of the Israeli Air Force launched attacks on the Aleppo International Airport, putting it out of service.

In addition, the airport was put out of service on March 22 after an Israeli airstrike, according to the Syrian Ministry of Transport.

During April, Israel carried out 11 airstrikes on several Syrian areas, including the governorates of Homs, Damascus, Daraa and Qunaitra, according to Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.
