QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said on Friday that Foreign Ministers of Syria, Russia, Iran and Turkey may hold a meeting in Moscow in May.
Reuters reported, citing Cavusoglu, that the meeting will take place to work on restoring diplomatic ties between Syria and Turkey after years of antagonism during the Syrian war.
Turkey, a NATO member, has supported the political and armed Syrian opposition against the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since the beginning of the conflict in Syria and even sent Turkish troops to fight on the ground in north Syria.
Late in December 2022, a trilateral meeting took place between the defense ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia in Moscow, marking the first high-level meeting between Syria and Turkey since the onset of the Syrian war in 2011.
On April 25, Defense Ministers of Syria, Russia, Turkey, and Iran held a quadrilateral meeting in Moscow, and discussed security issues.
