Official in Syria’s Hasakah says SDF integration continues after dissolution
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Hasakah Deputy Governor Ahmad al-Hilali on Wednesday said that the announcement of the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its integration into state institutions does not mean the integration process has ended.
Al-Hilali told Syrian state-run al-Ikhbariya TV that “What was achieved today is the result of more than six months of continuous work since the agreement reached on Jan. 29.”
He said the presidential team and committees formed during the integration process had made significant efforts, under the direct supervision and close follow-up of Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, to reach this outcome.
Al-Hilali said thousands of SDF members had been incorporated into arrangements for brigades affiliated with the Defense Ministry for several months, adding that military integration had already been effectively underway.
Al-Hilali said the announcement of the SDF’s dissolution marked a political culmination of the military integration process, coinciding with the departure of foreign fighters from its ranks and their return to their countries, which he said demonstrated the national character of the solution.
He added that 100 percent of Hasakah Governorate’s resources are now under the control of the Syrian state, with revenues to be transferred to the state treasury under arrangements for the next phase.
Al-Hilali stressed that SDF’s dissolution does not mean the integration file has ended, noting that other issues will remain under review and processing, but through different mechanisms.
He said the next phase “will not see decisions issued in Hasakah Governorate by any authority other than the Syrian state,” which he said would strengthen unified decision-making and state institutions.
Al-Hilali added that President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s directives focused on moving toward developing the region, improving its infrastructure and rehabilitating bridges and roads in the coming phase.
He said the governorate “will become a full part of the Syrian state and its institutions,” while work continues to organize the integrated forces.
Al-Hilali concluded by saying that work is underway to deploy integrated forces across Hasakah to fill security gaps, according to Defense Ministry plans and in line with requirements for stability and security.
