Russia coordinates for quartet meeting on Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russia is coordinating with Syria, Iran, and Turkey on a schedule for a meeting at the level of their deputy foreign ministers, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Tuesday.
“We proceed from the fact that the sooner that meeting takes place, the better. But our Syrian, Turkish and Iranian colleagues have work plans and timetables. Since there is no specific date, we will continue to coordinate,” Bogdanov said.
He added that no agreement has been reached in this regard so far.
On March 8, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Syria, and Iran would meet in Moscow during month of March.
Turkey’s efforts to normalize relations with Syria have developed over the past two months. Late in December 2022, a trilateral meeting took place between the defense ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia in Moscow, marking the first high-level meeting between Syria and Turkey since the onset of the Syrian war in 2011.
