ISIS-K to carry out attacks against Americans in 6 months – US

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State in Afghanistan (ISIS-K) has developed capabilities that enable it to launch attacks against Americans in Europe and Asia within six months, a top US military official has claimed.

US Army General Michael Kurilla, Commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), said, during a committee hearing at the US Department of Defense, that ISIS is rapidly developing the ability to conduct “external operations” in Europe and Asia.

The US troops withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021, as Taliban returned to power, twenty years after they were first ousted by US troops.

The group poses a significant threat to American and Western interests, Kurilla added.

“While an attack on the US homeland is less likely, hundreds of thousands of US citizens living abroad could be in the range of an attack,” the General noted.

ISIS and other extremist groups in Afghanistan seek to swell their ranks to enable it to launch attacks in the region and beyond, with “the ultimate goal to strike on the American homeland,” according to Kurilla.
