Bab al-Hawa Unveils Numbers of People, UN Aid Crossed into Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The administration of the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey north of Idlib, northwest Syria, revealed that more than 12.500 people crossed from quake-hit Turkey into Syria and about 300 UN aid trucks arrived in the country.
Eleven days after Turkish authorities announced an earthquake permit for Syrians who hold a temporary protection card (Kimlik) to visit relatives in Syria, the number of Syrians, who entered Syria in the 11th day coming from Turkey, reached 362, according to crossing’s administration.
The total number of people crossing into Syria in 11 days has reached 12.685.
Sources in the administration confirmed that the number of newcomers has declined in the past few days as they fear that Turkey would not allow their return.
Meanwhile, the crossing announced that 306 trucks carrying different humanitarian quake aid had crossed into northwest Syria so far.
At dawn on Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing thousands and injuring much more. The earthquake also caused immense destruction of buildings, trapping thousands under the rubble.
