Jordan Foils Smuggling of Weapons via drone From Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Jordanian Army foiled an attempted smuggling of weapons and hand grenades via a drone coming from Syrian territory into Jordan.

The Jordan News Agency, Petra, cited a military source in the Jordanian Army as saying, “A team of Border Guards tasked with detecting drones discovered the drone attempting to cross the border illegally from Syria into Jordan.”

The military source added that the army managed to shoot down the drone.

The source noted, “Army personnel found an M4 rifle and four hand grenades,” following search and inspection in the area.

The drone was set to detonate in case of detection by border guards.

A professional engineering team that handle such cases was in the scene to diffuse the bomb on the drone and later referred the smuggled items to relevant authorities, according to the source.

Jordan keeps facing many challenging in securing its common border with Syria from threats and smuggling operations, whether it be drugs or weapons, keeping the Jordanian army in a state of alert to control and protect the border.
