Qatari Officials Visit Aleppo’s Jindires, Discuss New Settlements
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a Qatari delegation, accompanied by officials of the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition, entered the town of Jindires in the countryside of Afrin, north of Aleppo.
The delegation included the Qatari ambassador to Turkey, Mohammed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, the head of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC, affiliated with the Syrian opposition), Salem al-Meslet, and the head of the opposition’s Interim Government, Abdurrahman Mustafa.
An exclusive source told North Press that the Qatari ambassador entered through the al-Hamam crossing in Afrin in order to evaluate the progress of Qatari aid distribution efforts to earthquake victims.
The Qatari ambassador, accompanied by al-Meslet, toured the region and discussed projects for establishing new settlements within the earthquake-affected areas, the source added.
The number of settlements built by Turkey with the support of Gulf countries, most notably Kuwait and Qatar, and Palestinian associations, exceeded more than 100 in Turkish-occupied areas in northern Syria, according to North Press’ own investigations.
