Unidentified Earthquake Dead to be DNA Tested in Aleppo
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The head of the Forensic Medical Body in Aleppo, Hashem Shalash, said on Sunday that they would be forced to resort to DNA testing in order to identify the bodies of those killed by the Feb. 6 earthquake if family members are unable to identify them.
The forensics center has recorded 11 unidentified bodies until now, Shalash told North Press.
There are also three bags of human remains that have not been identified, he added.
“If their families cannot identify them, we will take samples to identify them,” Shalash said.
Manal Jade’, the head of Forensic Medical Body in Latakia Governorate, on the Syrian coast, said that an unidentified dead child was pulled out from under rubble in the city of Jableh, in Latakia.
“If we cannot not identify the body, we will resort to DNA testing,” she added.
Seven days of a disastrous earthquake, the death toll in Syria has surpassed 3.587.
Additionally, more than 5.356 people were injured across Syria.
