Victims’ toll of quake mouts to 5.116 in opposition areas in Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, toll of victims of the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey reached about 5.116 dead and injured in the Syrian oipposition-held areas northwest Syria while search for survivors is still continuing in the countryside of Idlib and Afrin.
On Feb. 6, people in Syria and Turkey woke to the devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake that killed hundreds and injured thousands, in addition to toppling hundreds of residential buildings under which thousands are said to be still trapped.
Syrian Civil Defense, affiliated to the opposition factions, said at about 09:30 pm today that the number of dead reached 2.166 and 2.950 were injured after 112 hours of the violent earthquake.
The Civil Defense added that its teams are continuing rescue and search for survivors operations amidst very difficult conditions, working under the rubbles of the destroyed buildings.
Local sources told North Press that work is still ongoing in Harem and Salqin northwest of Idlib, and in the town of Jindires west of Afrin, north of Aleppo.
The sources added that works of removing debris and rubbles from streets began.
