Earthquake knocks down building, two houses collapsed in Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Earthquake Damage Committee registered the fall of a multiple-floor residential building and two houses in Kobani in northern Syria, with no human casualties following the earthquake that hit Syria.
The Local Administration and Environment Board in Kobani, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), formed the Earthquake Damage Committee on Monday.
Fewaz Ahmad, co-chair of the Board, said that the earthquake caused the collapse of a house in Tel Hajeb village in the east of Kobani and another one in Metin village in the southeast without human casualties.
On Monday at dawn, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and swaths of territory in Syria, inflicting major destruction and casualties.
The earthquake caused water leakage due to cracks in the water tank and damage to the water network in Kobani.
Ahmad said, “There are varying damages of partial collapses in civilian houses and are being registered,” noting damages to civilian cars by falling debris.
The committee is still registering the damages caused by the earthquake, and the count will be released when finished.
The Local Administration and Environment Board set up several tents in Kobani as shelters for civilians affected by the earthquake and fearing new aftershocks.
Four civilians were wounded in Kobani during the earthquake that hit Syria on Monday at dawn.
