Earthquake victims in government areas rise to 523 deaths, 1.353 injuries
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Ministry of Health of the Syrian government said on Monday that the toll of victims of the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey earlier today has risen to 538 deaths and 1.353 injuries.
At dawn on Monday, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Syria and Turkey, leaving thousands of casualties and enormous material damage.
Syrian state-run Sana news agency cited a medical source as saying, “Four vehicles loaded with medicine and surgical and emergency supplies reached Aleppo, Latakia and Hama.”
“Medical convoys were dispatched from the health directorates of Damascus, Rif Dimashq, Qunaitra, Homs and Tartus to the governorates of Aleppo and Latakia. In addition, 28 ambulances and seven mobile clinics were dispatched from Damascus, Rif Dimashq, Qunaitra, Homs and Tartus to support Aleppo and Latakia,” the medical source added.
Earlier today, the government announced an ’emergency nationwide action plan’ to address the miserable situation caused by the earthquake.
