Syrian Schools to Remain Closed Until Weekend

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press ) – On Monday, the Ministry of Education of the Syrian government announced that all schools under its control would remain closed until the weekend.

The Minister of Education, Darem Tabbaa, told the government-run SANA news agency, “Considering the general situation of schools and the general mood following the earthquake at dawn today, the ministry has decided to suspend attendance in kindergartens, as well as public, private, sharia and vocational schools until the weekend.”

Tabbaa noted that a limited number of staff would remain at work to render relief aid and services if necessary, and to repair the damaged schools to be ready when attendance resumes at the beginning of the next week.

Earlier in the day, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced schools and all associations would be closed down until calm returns.
