Earthquake in Syria Results in 2.834 killed, injured

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press ) – At least 837 people have lost their lives and 1.997 others were injured during Monday’s earthquake in Syria, according to North Press’ Monitoring and Documentation Department.

Syria’s National Earthquake Center said a “powerful quake hit north Iskenderun recording 7.7 on the Richter scale while Tartus on the Syrian coast recorded a 6.4 powerful quake.”

The city of Aleppo and its countryside, Idlib, Hama, Latakia and Tartus were the hardest hit by the earthquake. More than 100 houses and buildings were either destroyed or damaged in some 55 different areas.

The search for survivors in the rubble is ongoing and the death toll is expected to rise.
