SDF arrests ISIS leader in Syria’s Raqqa

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested on Monday a senior leader of Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa Governorate, northern Syria.

The SDF Media Center said, in a statement, that the SDF “arrested a leader of ‘Wilayah al-Sham’, affiliated to ISIS, Khalaf Abdullah, also known as Abu Obeida al-Shami, who was hiding in al-Rumeila neighborhood, northeast Raqqa.”

“Al-Shami admitted to his responsibility for running the administrative affairs of ISIS, especially wounded terrorists and families of killed ISIS terrorists,” according to the media center.

Only days ago, Operation ‘Retaliation for Raqqa Martyrs’ ended. It was launched by the SDF and Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), backed by the forces of the US-led Global Coalition, following an ISIS attack on an Asayish security center in Raqqa on December 26, 2022, which killed six SDF and Asayish fighters.
