2.108 earthquake victims in Syria so far
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press documented the loss of 644 people and the injury of 1.464 others across Syria as a result of the earthquake that struck the country at dawn on Monday.
At 4:17 am, Syria witnessed an earthquake which had its epicenter near the Turkish city of Gaziantep.
The Syrian National Earthquake Center (NEC) said that the earthquake struck north of the city of Iskenderun, on the Turkish coast, with a magnitude of 7.7, while Tartus, on the Syrian coast, recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4.
The city of Aleppo and its countryside, Idlib, Hama, Latakia, and Tartus are among the cities most affected by the earthquake, and the number of collapsed and damaged buildings is over 100 across more than 55 regions in Syria.
Since the morning hours, the search for survivors under the rubble continues; the death toll is likely to rise.
