Earthquake kills 237, injures 536 people in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Health announced the death of 237 people and the injury of 539 others in the governorates of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus due to an earthquake strike on Monday at dawn.
Syria witnessed at 4:17 am an earthquake affected by another stronger one that hit Turkey’s Gaziantep.
Syrian National Earthquake Center (NEC) said that the earthquake struck north of the city of Iskenderun, on the Turkish coast, with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale, while Tartus, on the Syrian coast, recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4.
The earthquake caused the collapse of many buildings in several areas in Syria, underneath which people are still stuck.
Thirty-six buildings collapsed in Aleppo, according to Documentation and Monitoring Department of North Press.
