Lack of heating fuel forces people of Aleppo to burn debris
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Families in the city of Aleppo, northwestern Syria, resort to burn fabric, plastic materials, second-hand clothes, and old wardrobes to warm up themselves in light of lack heating fuel in the winter.
Naziha Qabanji, a 35-year-old woman from Salaheddine neighborhood, said she resorted to break an old wardrobe of her to use its wood in warming up. She also burns clothes she never uses them.
Qabanji told North Press that her children collected plastic bottles from the streets to burn them so that they can warm up themselves.
Nowadays, Syria witnesses a low-pressure including rainfall and snowfall in most areas in addition to sub-zero temperatures.
Qabanji added that she has not received her family’s allocation of the heating fuel so far, amid her inability to get it from the black market due to its expensiveness. One liter of heating fuel costs 11 Syrian pounds (SYP) which equals about $1.5.
