9 Iranian-backed militants killed in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces found on Sunday bodies of militants of Iranian-backed militias who were arrested a few days ago by attackers bearing flags of Islamic State (ISIS) in the town of al-Masrab, west of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source of the government forces said that a patrol of the Division 17 of the government forces found nine bodies of Liwa Fatemiyoun, an Iranian-backed militia, as they were arrested on Jan. 8, after ISIS supporters attacked them while they were on a combing operation in al-Masrab Desert.
The militants were beheaded and stripped of their clothes, the source added.
Since 2017, the Syrian government forces have been combing the desert in response to ISIS increasing practices that have caused the forces massive human and material losses.
These kind of attacks are usually carried out by ISIS sleeper cells, which continue to attack the government forces and Iranian-backed militants in the Syrian Badia by planting IEDs and setting ambushes.
