4.000 Syrian refugees returned to homeland from Jordan in 2022
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – About 4.000 Syrian refugees have been returned to Syria from Jordan during 2022, bringing the total number of returned Syrians from countries of refuge, since 2016, to about 350.000.
The Jordan-based public al-Mamlaka channel said since 2016 until December 2022, about 350.756 Syrian refugees have been returned to their country, including 64.812 resided in Jordan, according to UNHCR data until the end of November of 2022.
Al-Mamlaka added in a report that 47.623 refugees have been returned to Syria from Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt, during 2022, according to the UN.
Jordan has hosted more than 1.3 million Syrians since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, of them 669.483 are registered by the UNHCR.
In November, 2022, Lebanon resumed process of returning hundreds of Syrian refugees, which it describes as voluntary, while human rights organizations consider a forced return.
A second batch of Syrian refugees left in November, 2022 Lebanon and entered Syria through al-Dabousiyeh border crossing in Homs countryside and al-Zamrani in Damascus countryside.
Turkey has also forcibly deported Syrian refugees over the past year under pretexts related to their lack of the necessary legal documentations.
UNHCR says figures of returnees to Syria are numbers that have been verified or monitored by UNHCR and do not reflect the accurate number that may be much higher.
