Russian MP Conducts One-Sided Patrol In Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Russian Military Police (MP) conducted on Monday, a one-sided patrol in the eastern countryside of Kobani, northern Syria.
A Russian-Turkish joint patrol was scheduled to be conducted; however, Turkish forces did not participate though Turkish military vehicles arrived at the border gate near the village of Gharib, 20 km east of Kobani.
The joint patrols have started since 2019, following a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Turkey after the latter launched the so-called “Peace Spring” operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and occupied the two cities of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in northern Syria.
A military source told North Press, quoting the Russian patrol commander as saying that Turkey refrained from participating due to bad weather, which made it difficult for Russian helicopters accompanying the patrol to fly.
The patrol, which consisted of four Russian military vehicles, set off from Gharib and passed the villages of Qaramogh, Kharabisan Tahtani and Baghdik in the eastern countryside, reaching the villages of Khana, in the western countryside of Tel Abyad.
Then, the Russian military vehicles returned to their position near the town of Sirrin, south of Kobani.
On Nov.19, Russian MP and Turkish forces conducted a joint military patrol in the western countryside of Kobani, marking the 120th patrol since signing the Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement in 2019.
On Dec. 12, Russian MP conducted a one-sided patrol, without the participation of the Turkish forces, in the eastern countryside of Kobani.
