Health field receives ‘insufficient’ support in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Support provided by local and international organizations is “insufficient”, in light of the region’s need for health support, a director of al-Kasrah Hospital in west of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, east Syria, said on Saturday.
On September 13, Maryam al-Awad, co-chair of the Health Committee in Deir ez-Zor Civil Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) called on world organizations and NGOs running health sector to provide the Health Committee with medicines especially chlorine to curb cholera outbreak.
On September 20, Tareq al-Ibrahim, Director of al-Kasra Hospital, west of Deir ez-Zor, said that they had formed an emergency cell from hospital nurses and doctors to deal with the increasing infections of cholera.
He told North Press that they didn’t receive any support by Health Committee in Deir ez-Zor Civil Council.
The Health Committee is preparing to restore the hospital to meet the medical needs of the residents in light of their reliance on the mini-hospital, according to health officials in Deir ez-Zor.
The hospital, built in 2010, is located in the town of al-Kasrah, 45 km west of Deir ez-Zor, and it is the largest hospital.
It was afflicted by battles waged between the Syrian Democratic Forces supported by the US-led Global Coalition and the Islamic State Organization (ISIS (after it was used by the latter as a field hospital.
