RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) cordoned off on Sunday evening the central prison in Raqqa city, north Syria, which holds many detainees of the Islamic State (ISIS).
On June 19, ISIS prisoners revolted in the prison and tried to escape.
A military source told North Press that the Asayish cordoned off the central prison in a “precautionary” mobilization.
The source added that the Asayish is on alert for the third day in a row. The source denied any escapes or prison riots.
A local source told North Press that the prison’s surroundings are witnessing intense patrols and security measures, and the streets around it have been closed for three days.
Recently, ISIS’ activity has increased in the region. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Asayish repeatedly arrest the organization’s cells in the countryside of Raqqa.
On October 8, the SDF arrested an ISIS operative responsible for facilitating the movement of the organization’s sleeper cells and supplying them financially and logistically.
