Government soldiers killed, injured in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen targeted on Monday a military vehicle belonging to Syrian government forces with an IED west of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, killing a soldier and wounding two others.
A local source told North Press that unknown gunmen targeted, with an IED, a military vehicle intended to distribute food to military posts.
As a result, one soldier was killed and two others were wounded on the road links between the city of Nawa and the village of Nasriyah west of Daraa.
The two wounded, including a Lieutenant Officer, were taken to Nawa Hospital for treatment, the source added.
The government forces sent reinforcements to the targeted site and a number of nearby farms were raided in search of suspects.
Residents therefore travelled on other roads, fearing arrest especially that the government forces began searching cars and checking personal IDs, according to the source.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
